Trip to York #07 - National Rail Museum (2)

The real Icing on the cake for the visit to the National Railway Museum for me was to see the Mallard. This engine holds the record for the fastest steam locomotive. 125.88 mph. There is an interesting article on the Telegraph Web site click HERE

The Driver 61 year old Joseph Duddington was well known for taking risks and was seen to 'turn his hat round' as he set off. Just after he beat the record the middle big end book and he had to limp into Peterborough. The engine did one 1.5 Million Miles in its working life. They don't make engine like that any more.

Wow - I could have spent the whole time in this Museum. Lots of Royal Trains, Nostalgia and the SMELL of engineering.
