Around Stretham Old Pumping Station.
We had a very pleasant walk near Stretham Old Pumping Station after Brunch on Sunday. Yes I do mean Brunch - We got up late and it was too late for Breakfast and too early for Lunch.
The Pumping station was built in 1831 and replaced 4 windmills. It was built by Butterleys of Derbyshire for a cost of £4950. Powered by steam it lifted water from the Fen and into the Old Wes River. It was operational for about 100 years.
This Engin is the last surviving engine in southern England, there was over a 100. The building is now managed by a Preservation Trust and is open to the public, or at least will be when we get back to normal.
