Elvaston Castle URBEX with Line + Light

Excellent days photo course / photo opportunity at Elvaston Castle in Derbyshire last Friday with my friend Ken from the Camera Club. The course was run by 'Line and Light' and lead by Martine Hamilton Knight, a renowned Architectural Photographer. A few shots outside as a record then started the course at 10 with some advise about the opportunities around the building. Elvaston Castle is a Grade II listed building in the Gothic Revival Architectural Style. Originally built in 1633 but extensively changed in the early 19th century bu architect James Wyatt with further work by architect Lewis Nochalls Cottinghamin the 1830's The estate passed into the hands go Derbyshire County Council in 1966 and the the park is open to the public. The house is not deemed to be safe for the public and many of the rooms are out of bounds. Line and Light have been running courses on internal architecture and URBEX for some time and well worth attending. Martine did mention that other organisations / local community use the venue on occasions and annoyingly tidy up a bit :( You can read about Elvaston on Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvaston_Castle

Campsite Photos

Just a few photos I took around the campsite we stayed in.

The campsite is called Dales Farm and is near Bakewell in Derbyshire. Very Friendly site. You need to check out John's Weather Forecasting Stone - it was 100% accurate for the conditions we had while we were there :)

Calke Abbey - Abstract and Detail

The National Trust call this 'The Unstately Home'

I have decided to split this visit into three blogs.
  1. Calke Abbey - The Unstately home
  2. Calke Abbey - Below Stairs
  3. Calk Abbey - Abstract and detail (This Blog).
All pictures on the three blogs were taken with my iPhone XR. This has a fixed lens and most pictures are cropped as taken. They have then been processed as jpegs in Adobe Lightroom.

I became fascinated with the textures, detail and feel of the house.

Here we go Again

Here we go again It’s been a long time since we have done a jigsaw, probably just after two Christmases ago (ie Jan 2025). I decided to get ...
