The Kymin

Holiday in Gloucestershire and Wales. We met up with Brother in law and Sister in law at the Kymin, a high vantage point above Monmouth where they live. We arrived there in good time, late afternoon. Beautiful light.

The summit is 800 feet above sea level. Lovely round house and a Navel Temple 'To perpetuate the names of those Noble Admirals who distinguished themselves' at the end of the 1700's (16 Names)


The Round House did up to August 2020 house National Trust Custodians of the site. They were the first NT staff in Wales to be made redundant due to the pandemic. The last custodians had been there for 17 years.

Hampshire Holiday Post 12 - Hinton Ampner House - White Flowers IR

 I have been experimenting with Infrared macro photos particularly flowers with insect on. Not a lot of success so far in terms of what I have in mind. While I was walking around the garden at Hinton Ampner I thought O would have a go again with the object of creating a collection of 'White Flower Subjects'. Green plant material goes white with infrared photography. Still early days in my experimentation but I am quite pleased with these images.

Hampshire Holiday Post 11 - Hinton Ampner House - The Steps

While I was walking around Hinton Ampner Garden I kept being drawn back to this set of concert steps. I would approach it from a different direction, I maybe using a different lens / camera and see another image to take. You speak about 'working the subject' and I certainly did here and thoroughly enjoyed the process.
