Thorpness

We were with Fran and Andy +plus kids for Frances's 40th birthday. Andy suggested this walk to Thorpness for Lunch. 'Its only a short walk Barry, I am sure your knees will be okay' - Yer Right!! It was a nice walk and a great lunch at the Dolphin Inn. The real reward for me was to see this fantastic windmill.

Aldeburgh Scallop

On our walk from Aldeburgh to Thorpeness for Lunch we passed the Scallop a sculpture dedicated to Benjamin Britton. He lived and worked around Aldeburgh. The sculpture is made out of stainless steel by the Suffolk based artist Maggie Hambling. It was unveiled in November 2003. The words "I hear those voices that will not be drowned' from Benjamin Britton's opera 'Peter Grimes'. I have wanted to see this sculpture for a number of years and I was not disappointed. The kids really enjoyed it too. As an aside I decided to listen to Benjamin Britton's 'Peter Grimes Op.33' while I wrote this blog. Don't you just love streaming music. My Girl 'Alexa' and Spotify are just great.

Interestingly according to Wikipedia the sculpture is controversial in the local area with many local residents considering that it spoils the beach. Vandalisation and petitions for its removal and retention have been lodged. I personally cannot see the problem. Its a beautiful piece of art.

Aldeburgh - The South Lookout

Weekend stay in Aldeburgh back in at the end of October to celebrate her xx Birthday:) We stayed in the Brudenell Hotel. Very friendly and welcoming. Its rear entrance is directly onto the seafront and just a few hundred yards away is 'The South Lookout', an amazing building. We walked passed it on the second day whilst it was bathed in beautiful light.
